Classical Tibetan is the language of texts from the 10th – 12th centuries, written in the Tibetan script. It is also the basis for Modern Standard Tibetan, the official language of the Tibet Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China. Tibetic languages form a branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is spoken by over a million people, mainly in Estonia where it has official status.
